Lost summer rain beside the dry summer heat
Night drops in lace like the veils of a widow
who can't find the proper place to keep her grief

There's no air beside her pillow
There's no heat beside her sleep
There's no footsteps at the doorway

Her tears are raining on the Abilene sunset
that clears the dust and dries out the throat
some kind of wild night that marks off horizons
