Redshift started playing together in the Summer of 2019 and had started playing out in Seattle when the pandemic hit. So instead of playing live, we began writing and recording songs at a remove, and sending the tracks to each other until I would put the final result together in my basement studio.

The original Redshift concept was as an aggressive surf band--I wanted to play more guitar and sing less, and most of Redshift's songs are instrumentals. But after the pandemic hit, and the protest seized the country, by common assent we took the band in a harder direction.

Adam in particular was active in all the BLM protests here in Seattle, and I borrowed the title and opening riff from Articles of Faith for this song, which we wrote around the time the protests were becoming common.
